Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio has categorically denied any involvement in the filing of a complaint against his contender, Associate Justice Renato Corona, for the soon-to-be-vacated post of chief justice.
In a letter to Chief Justice Reynato Puno dated February 9, Carpio stated that he had not communicated with lawyer Fernando Campos, who filed the complaint against Corona, regarding the matter.
Carpio and Corona are both nominated by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) as successor of outgoing Chief Justice Puno, who will retire on May 17. The Supreme Court’s First Division previously junked a similar complaint from Campos in April 2009 and July 2009.
