Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio has sounded the alarm on the creation of special Regional Trial Court (RTC) branches that will hear cases involving graft-ridden infrastructure projects. In an exclusive interview with ANC’s Headstart, Justice Carpio expressed concerns over the potential for political interference and the undermining of good governance.
Citing the recent reversal of the dismissal of Senator Joel Villanueva, Justice Carpio emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those responsible for corruption are held accountable. He also highlighted the need for the Ombudsman to exercise its powers effectively in investigating and prosecuting graft cases.
Justice Carpio’s comments come as the country grapples with the flood control scandal, which has raised questions about the accountability of government officials and the effectiveness of institutions in preventing corruption.
