Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio has spoken out about the differing views and stances of former Chief Justices in impeachment cases.
In an interview, Carpio mentioned that the Francisco case involving former Chief Justice Davide followed the first mode, which refers to a plenary hearing by the Committee on Justice. In contrast, the impeachment cases against Vice President Sara Duterte, like those against Estrada and Corona, involved direct filing. According to Carpio, “this is a different mode.”
