Justice Carpio Urges PH to Send Patrols to Protect EEZ

Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio has emphasized the importance of sending patrols to protect the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the South China Sea. In a recent statement, he highlighted the need for proactive measures to safeguard the country’s territorial rights. Carpio’s call comes amidst growing concerns over China’s increasing assertiveness in the region.

The Supreme Court Justice has long been an advocate for Philippine sovereignty and has repeatedly stressed the importance of upholding international law in resolving disputes. He notes that sending patrols is a crucial step in demonstrating the country’s commitment to protecting its EEZ and asserting its territorial claims.

Carpio’s position on this matter is rooted in his extensive knowledge of international law and his experience as a former Solicitor General. His advocacy has been instrumental in raising awareness about the Philippines’ rights and obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
