Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio emphasized that a military confrontation is not the solution to the West Philippine Sea dispute. In an interview, he stressed that diplomacy and international law must be employed to resolve the issue. According to him, the Philippines has a strong case in claiming its rights over the disputed territories based on the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). He also highlighted the importance of building alliances with other countries to counter China’s aggressive actions in the region.
