Senator Lacson Rejects 1Sambayan Invitation Amid Presidential Ambitions

Senator Panfilo Lacson has expressed his intention to decline an invitation from 1Sambayan Coalition following the exclusion of his name from their list of preferred presidential candidates. This decision comes after former Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio stated that while he has no issue with Lacson’s senatorial bid, he will not consider him for the presidency.

Lacson questioned this stance, pointing out the apparent inconsistency in supporting him as a senator but not considering him for president due to his role in passing the Anti-Terrorism Act. He emphasized that as a senator, it is his duty and mandate to pass laws, including those that may be contentious.

1Sambayan Convener Howard Calleja maintained that their coalition remains open to discussions with Lacson and other individuals who share their goals of unifying the opposition against dictatorship and authoritarianism. The group seeks to promote a united front against human rights suppression, extrajudicial killings, and subservience to foreign interests.
