Retired Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio has vehemently denied owning any developments in the picturesque Boracay Island. The accusation arose after President Rodrigo Duterte made a claim about the Department of Environment and Natural Resources uncovering properties belonging to Carpio’s family.
Carpio explained that his grandmother had initially acquired land on the island through the Torrens system, but later, her seven children inherited it. However, he and his siblings decided to sell most of their shares to real estate developers, leaving no familial involvement in any ongoing projects.
President Duterte has ordered the Department of Agrarian Reform to investigate these properties under land reform laws.
