Justice Antonio Carpio has emphasized that the gas exploration in Reed Bank is a ‘litmus test’ for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The former Supreme Court Associate Justice highlighted the importance of upholding international law and respecting the country’s sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea.
In an exclusive interview with ANC, Carpio stressed that the success of the gas exploration project depends on the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Carpio’s remarks come as the Philippines is poised to become a major player in the energy sector, with the Reed Bank gas field estimated to contain over 2.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
However, Carpio warned that any attempt to compromise the country’s sovereignty or disregard international law would have severe consequences, not only for the country but also for future generations.
