On January 14th, Supreme Court spokesperson Jose Midas Marquez issued a bold challenge to critics who sought to impeach Associate Justice Antonio Carpio. The critics, led by lawyer Ferdinand Topacio and Lauro Vizconde, had accused Carpio of influencing his fellow justices in acquitting Hubert Webb. He emphasized that it was their responsibility to keep quiet if they lacked substantial proof. The SC spokesperson further noted that threats of impeachment could undermine the integrity and independence of the Court, compromising public trust in the justice system.
