Lacson Rebuffs 1Sambayan’s Presidential Bid Invitation

Senator Panfilo Lacson has announced his intention to decline an invitation from the 1Sambayan Coalition to participate in their Town Hall Meeting on National Security and Foreign Policy for 2022. This decision comes after coalition leader, former Supreme Court justice Antonio Carpio, excluded him from the list of possible presidential candidates due to his role in passing the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

Lacson expressed surprise at being invited to the meeting despite being precluded from the coalition’s presidential nominees. He noted that his involvement in lawmaking and passage of the ATA makes it inconsistent for him to be considered for the presidency.

1Sambayan convener Howard Calleja responded by stating that they remain open to discussions with Lacson and other individuals, but emphasized their goal of unifying the opposition against dictatorship and authoritarianism.
