Senator Panfilo Lacson has expressed his intention to decline invitations from the 1Sambayan Coalition after its leader, Justice Antonio Carpio, excluded him from their list of preferred presidential candidates. According to Lacson, he was invited to participate in a Town Hall Meeting on National Security and Foreign Policy for 2022, but he will not attend due to his disagreement with Carpio’s stance.
Lacson pointed out that while Carpio has no issue with him running for senatorial office, he will not consider him as one of their presidential nominees. This decision was met with understanding from the coalition’s convener, Howard Calleja, who stated that they remain open to discussions with Lacson and other individuals.
Lacson is currently weighing his options for the 2022 elections, where he has been floated as a possible presidential candidate. Senate President Vicente Sotto III has expressed his willingness to be Lacson’s running mate if he decides to seek the presidency.
