With Vice President Leni Robredo yet to make a decision on her presidential bid, the opposition coalition 1Sambayan has identified Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV as potential alternatives. While Carpio remains hopeful that Robredo will accept the endorsement, the coalition is prepared to consider other options.
The selection process for a common opposition candidate has been ongoing, with Moreno and Trillanes having already expressed their willingness to undergo it. However, some member-organizations of 1Sambayan have raised concerns that the perceived endorsement of Robredo may hinder unification efforts.
The filing of certificates of candidacy for national positions began on Friday and will end on October 8, with Trillanes having stated he would run if Robredo fails to make a decision by then. Meanwhile, Moreno has already announced his presidential bid in 2022.
