Carpio Warns China on Laser Incident in West Philippine Sea

Retired Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio has issued a stern warning to China over the recent laser incident in the West Philippine Sea. According to Carpio, the Chinese Coast Guard’s use of lasers that can harm people constitutes an armed attack under international law.

Carpio pointed out that the 2008 Beijing Declaration and Action Plan, which China signed with ASEAN member-states, prohibits the use of laser weapons that can cause death or injury. He emphasized that China’s actions in the disputed waters violate this provision.

The veteran jurist urged the current administration to make it clear to China that such incidents will not be tolerated. With his extensive knowledge on international law, Carpio’s stance underscores the gravity of China’s actions and its implications for regional security.
