Supreme Court Justice Blasts Duterte Administration’s Drug War

Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio has weighed in on the recent release of former Senator Leila de Lima on bail. He believes that De Lima’s motion for bail should have been granted long ago, given the weak evidence against her.

Carpio also emphasized the Philippines’ obligation to cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in its investigation into the Duterte administration’s war on drugs. He cited a Supreme Court decision stating that withdrawing from the Rome Statute does not discharge a state party from its obligations as a member.
