Carpio Calls for Ground Rules in Scarborough Shoal Fishing Dispute

As the maritime dispute in Scarborough Shoal continues, former Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio has emphasized the need to establish ground rules for fishing in the area. The Supreme Court veteran believes that this approach can help resolve the territorial and maritime disputes between the Philippines and China.

Carpio explains that Scarborough Shoal is a shared fishing ground for the Philippines, China, and Vietnam, making it essential to set clear guidelines for fishing activities. By doing so, the former justice aims to prevent conflicts between these countries and promote a more peaceful resolution to the dispute.

According to Carpio, establishing ground rules will not only benefit the Philippines but also contribute to regional stability in the West Philippine Sea. He notes that by working together, nations can find mutually beneficial solutions to their differences, ensuring the preservation of marine resources for future generations.
