As tensions persist in the West Philippine Sea, retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio reiterated the importance of continuing cases against China despite the costs. In a recent interview with ANC’s Karen Davila, Carpio emphasized that the Philippines must remain steadfast in upholding its rights under international law.
Carpio’s remarks come as the world rallies behind arbitral rulings, which have consistently ruled in favor of the Philippines’ claims to the disputed territory. Despite China’s continued aggression and refusal to recognize these decisions, Carpio remains optimistic that the country’s efforts will ultimately bear fruit.
The former Justice highlighted the significance of continuing to push for justice through international arbitration, even if it means shouldering significant costs. He noted that the Philippines has a moral obligation to protect its sovereignty and the rights of its citizens in the region.
