Carpio pointed out that China’s aggressive actions in the disputed waters have been met with limited response from the Philippine government. He argued that the current approach has not yielded the desired results and it is time for a new strategy.
The former justice highlighted the importance of international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), in resolving maritime disputes. He stressed that the Philippines should focus on building a strong case based on the principles of UNCLOS to support its claims.
