Renowned jurist Justice Antonio Carpio has sounded the alarm over a so-called ‘provisional understanding’ between the Philippines and China regarding the Rotation and Resupply Mission at Ayungin Shoal. According to sources, this agreement is not binding and could potentially pave the way for further expansion of Chinese influence in the West Philippine Sea.
Carpio, an outspoken advocate for Filipino sovereignty over the WPS, emphasized that any understanding or agreement with China must be carefully scrutinized and evaluated to ensure it aligns with the country’s national interests. He warned against allowing such agreements to set a precedent for future concessions or compromises on Philippine territory.
In light of this development, Carpio’s words serve as a timely reminder of the importance of vigilance in defending Philippine sovereignty over the WPS.
