Justice Carpio Slams House’s Inaction on Anti-Political Dynasty Law

Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio has long been a vocal advocate for the passage of an anti-political dynasty law. In a recent statement, he lambasted the House of Representatives’ inaction on the issue, calling it ‘a grave abuse of power.’ According to Carpio, the continued absence of a law to curb political dynasties is a clear indication that the country’s leaders are more interested in maintaining their grip on power than serving the public interest.

Carpio emphasized that the passage of such a law would not only promote true democracy but also help prevent the concentration of wealth and power among certain families. He pointed out that the Philippines’ current system allows for the perpetuation of elite dynasties, stifling social mobility and hindering economic development.

The senior associate justice expressed his disappointment with the House’s inaction, stating that it is a clear failure on their part to uphold the people’s will and promote good governance. He stressed that the implementation of an anti-political dynasty law is long overdue and should not be further delayed.
