Justice Carpio on Duterte’s ICC Woes: Resolutions Amount to Nothing

Renowned jurist and former Supreme Court Justice Antonio T. Carpio has expressed his views on the various resolutions filed by President Rodrigo Duterte seeking his release from the International Criminal Court (ICC). According to Carpio, these resolutions are nothing more than a mere exercise in futility.

Carpio, who is known for his expertise on international law and his staunch opposition to Duterte’s policies, has long been a vocal critic of the President’s actions. In this context, his views on the ICC resolutions carry significant weight.

In an exclusive interview, Carpio explained that the resolutions filed by the Philippine government are nothing more than a desperate attempt to circumvent the ICC’s jurisdiction. He argued that the Duterte administration is trying to create the illusion of cooperation with the international community while in reality, it is merely attempting to delay or evade accountability.

Carpio emphasized that the ICC’s jurisdiction cannot be easily waived, and any attempts to do so would only serve to highlight the Philippine government’s lack of credibility. He pointed out that the Duterte administration has a history of disregarding international law and undermining institutions that hold it accountable.
