Senate to Proceed with Sara Impeachment Trial if SC Reverses Decision

Retired Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio believes that the Senate should automatically proceed with the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte if the Supreme Court reverses its decision. The court ruled earlier that the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte were unconstitutional and barred by the one-year rule.

Carpio explained that if the Supreme Court rules in favor of the House of Representatives on their motion for reconsideration, there is no need for a Senator to file a motion to revive the Articles of Impeachment. He noted that the Constitution clearly states that trial by the Senate shall proceed forthwith.
