As tensions continue to rise in the West Philippine Sea, former Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio has once again spoken out against China’s actions. In a recent interview with ANC, Carpio emphasized that China is a ‘rogue state’ due to its refusal to comply with the arbitral decision regarding the disputed waters.
Carpio argued that China’s statements calling out the Philippines for navigating its waters are nothing more than an attempt to justify its own aggressive actions in the region. He pointed out that the country has consistently ignored international law and conventions, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which it signed but refused to ratify.
The former justice also highlighted the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting international agreements. He expressed concern over China’s growing assertiveness in the region and its potential impact on regional stability.
