Former Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio has urged the Philippine government to maintain its resupply mission in the Ayungin Shoal, a key location in the West Philippine Sea. In an exclusive interview on ANC’s Headstart, Justice Carpio emphasized the importance of preserving the country’s maritime rights and interests in the disputed area.
According to Carpio, the resupply mission serves as a vital demonstration of the Philippines’ commitment to upholding its sovereignty over the shoal. He also proposed the establishment of a civilian outpost in the area, which would not only enhance the country’s presence but also provide an opportunity for civilians to engage in research and development initiatives.
Carpio stressed that the continued resupply mission is crucial in maintaining the Philippines’ territorial integrity and asserting its claims over the Ayungin Shoal. He also highlighted the need for the government to work closely with international partners to promote peace and stability in the region.
